I recently updated my Homelab with new hardware which still gives me the possibility of having more computational power and the possibility of testing new environments such as VCF 9.0.
These home labs (though not on cutting-edge hardware) are a response to professional needs to stay up-to-date on new features and is a powerful tool for learning, experimentation, testing, and hands-on demonstrations: essentially a personal sandbox for replicating real-world scenarios in a safe environment.
My previous (and still working) Home lab v1 consists of the following hardware:
Intel® Server Board S2600GZ
2 x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2620 v2 Family 2.00 GHz
Memory 192 GB DDR3 ECC UDIMM 1333
4 - LAN Ports 4x 1GbE
LSI MegaRAIS SA 9265-8i Controller
2 x HDD SAS 300 GB 12Gb/s 10000rpm 128MB 2,5" HGST HUC101830CSS200
2 x HDD SAS 600 GB 12Gb/s 15000rpm 128MB 2,5" SeagateST600MP0005
2 x HDD SATA3 2 TB V-NAND SSD 870EVO SAMSUMG (Read Speed 560MB/s - Write Speed 530MB/s)
New entry (homelab v2):
DELL - PowerEdge R730
2 x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2687W v4 3.0GHz, 12C/24T
Memory 512 GB DDR4 RDIMM 2400MT/s
2 - LAN Ports 2x 10GbE SFP+
2 - LAN Ports 2x 1GbE
PERC H730 Integrated RAID Controller
2 x HDD SAS 300 GB 12Gb/s 10000rpm 2,5"
2 x HDD SATA3 2 TB 3D NAND SSD FANXIANG S101 (Read Speed 550MB/s - Write Speed 500MB/s)
1 x HDD SATA3 2 TB V-NAND SSD 870QVO SAMSUMG (Read Speed 560MB/s - Write Speed 530MB/s)
Below is a high-level diagram of my infrastructure
That said, my lab is still very much a work in progress and constantly evolving.
